"Hey dreamer don't give up on me this time, live life like a child in a playground, can you hear the sound of history fading away?" (Lyrics from the song Home by Nick Balcombe)
Donate NowAbout the FoundationGet Hairy is month-long event in August to assist in raising money for the Foundation so that we can continue to provide support and assistance to emerging Tasmanian musicians.
If you are unable to grow a Beard, you can still become a CrowdRaiser, all you need to do is ditch something that you love (like chocolate) for the month.
Nick was also extremely passionate about Movember, and therefore we have decided to donate 50% of all funds raised through this event to the Movember Foundation.
Following the sudden passing of Nick, our much loved friend, brother, cousin, son, grandson and soulmate this foundation was formed as a way of continuing to celebrate his music and support other emerging musicians to live their dream. With all of this in mind, his friends and family are working together to develop a grant in his honour for an up-and-coming musician to go to that next level that Nick was always striving for.
Nick was a passionate Tasmanian living his his dream. While a very successful web designer and a much valued employee of the water industry, his passion was his music and loved ones. Following his tragic death due to stroke, his vast network of friends and fans have been keen to do something that celebrates his life and achievements, and create a legacy that Nick would be proud of.
All up and coming musicians would understand how hard, and expensive it is to make a living and to “crack the big time” in the music industry. Through Nick’s legacy the Nick Balcombe Foundation (NBF) offers a ‘leg up’ via an annual grant to a motivated and enthusiastic up and coming musician and/or band from Tasmania. We want to help you live your dream so that Nick’s can live on.
“If I am able to see and accomplish only half of what Nick did in his 31 years of a fun filled life, I will be a proud and happy man.”
Benn Turner
“My promise is to keep his dream alive. It is no coincidence that the other legends on this committee were close mates of Nick too. Working with them on this cool project is very special and Nick would be super stoked for us to all be together.”
Finn Dorney
“Ideas that come from people collaborating really stoke my fire for life. It’s that positive spark which isn’t possible without a meeting of different ways thinking. This foundation has exactly that feeling, which is not surprising given that it’s Nicko’s spirit that inspires us.”
Andy Crawford
"Nicko was a great friend and “partner in crime”. I was very lucky to be his friend, colleague, boss and business partner. I miss our early morning “water quality testing” sessions at RSLs, watching the sun come up and the waves roll by while solving the world’s problems out the back."
